MaudieMaudie

Maudie
Colonels Queen Bee, known around here as Maudie,
is a 1994 red dun mare.
On her papers, you will find Colonel Freckles, Rondo Leo, and Jackie Bee twice.
She stands 15.3 and is a big horse, but still shows plenty of athletic ability and speed.
She has been a typical ranch horse since we got her in 1997
and also used some on barrels and other events.
All her colts so far have received her wonderful temperament
and her cowing ability and speed.

On May 11, 2007, Sarah rode in her first big barrel race.  It was in Logan at the Chassidy Breese Memorial Race.  She rode 3 horses and had a little tougher time with Maudie and Annie, but ended up 6th in the 2D on Krysler.  This picture was taken by Kirby Ross, the Phillips County Review editor, and he was able to get an excellent picture of Sarah and Maudie going around the first barrel.

Will running barrels on her
In 2006, she was brought back out for my nephew to show at the KFQHRA horseshow in Plainville on July 22.  She won the Youth Ranch Reining and Youth Poles and got 3rd in Youth Barrels and the Open 7 & older Mares. In the Youth Mares Conformation, she finished in 4th.

Will during the Reining pattern

Maudie was only shown in two FQHR horseshows in 2004.  Due to a bad cut on her foot that happened on August 10, 2004, her show career was over for a while.
She will be brought back in 2006, but here is how she did in 2004...
On June 3 in Hebron, NE, she finished 4th in Ranch Reining, 1st in Pole Bending, and 2nd in the Barrels.
My 9-year old niece, Sarah, rode her in Walk Trot and they won the class.
In Plainville, KS on July 17, she was 3rd in the Aged Mares class and
11th in Ranch Pleasure ridden by a friend of mine.
Due to rider error, we didn't place in reining or ranch cutting.

Ciclone Socks is the stud I have been using the past few years.
Ciclone is a palomino son of PC Sun Socks by Sun Frost out of an Easy Jet granddaughter
and he is double bred Laughing Boy.

Maudie's foals by Ciclone Socks:
The oldest two, Scooter and Grace, are turning out to be good cow horses.
Grace had an injury in 2005 and is coming along very well in 2006...the trainer said she showed a high interest in working cattle with him.  The owner of Scooter is training him in team roping--heading and also had him at a feedlot for a short time where the rider said he was one "cow eatin' sob"

"Scooter"
Maudie's 2002 colt, SV Ciclones Hotrod, was born on April 10.

Other foals by Maudie:

On April 9, 2001, she had a palomino stud colt,
SV Zans Col Walker.
His sire was Bimzan Red Buck.
Walker was sold in August 2002 and the new owner
had him broke in August 2003.
I talked to the trainer and he broke out very
easily and also shows a lot of natural
cowing ability.
Her first foal, Bartenders Grace, was born in 1998.
She was a beautiful horse
with a wonderful disposition.
We had to have her put down on Sept. 28, 2001.
See her and read what happened here.
She was by Two ID Sweet Jack

Maudie was ridden at a few horseshows in 2003, and in 2002 I rode her in only one horseshow,
but she was ridden by a friend of ours at the Kansas Omoksee on June 1-2, 2002.
She finished 5th overall in the Men's division at the Bit & Spur arena in Bentley, KS.
Due to Krysler bowing a tendon on August 17, 2002,
she was used by me at the State Show that year in five events.
She placed in 3 of the 5...2nd in Reining and 4th in Speed Barrels and Keg Bending.
Here is a picture of her running speed barrels at the state show.
Maudie running Speed Barrels at 2002 state show

At the 2001 KWHA State Show, she finished
3rd in Reining and Flag Race and
4th in Half Eight in the individual events.
In the team events, Lori riding Maudie and our nephew, Brice, riding Krysler finished
1st in Pair Sack and the Western Relay team Lori rode in finished 4th.
It was a tough State Show, especially in the Women's class.
For instance, in Flag Race, Lori's 3rd place was a 9.890--1st was 9.742, 2nd 9.840, and 4th 9.896.
