All bulls selling are AM, NH and CA free.
This statement means that the bulls selling are free from the genetic defects found in certain popular bloodlines a couple years ago in the Angus breed. The bulls are free either because of a clean pedigree (meaning no carriers) or their ancestors have been tested free or the bull himself has been tested free.

The testing is done using a simple blood test. A few drops are put on a card and sent to a lab.
We feel, as seedstock producers, it is one of our responsibilities that our bulls are free from these defects that could be passed on to your herd. Not all seedstock producers think this way. For example, we purchased a new BALANCER (not ANGUS) herdsire last spring,
assuming the breeder we purchased him from had tested his sale bulls that were possible carriers. We found out from the Gelbvieh Assoc. after we had bred the bull to several cows that he had NOT been tested and is a possible carrier because his sire has carriers in his pedigree a couple generations back which we did not see by looking at the pedigree in catalog.

Don’t assume like we did. If they don’t state the cattle are AM, NH and CA free, they may have not been tested. There’s no excuse for this with today’s simple testing technology.
